Home

Here is one of my favorite groups – Westlife – with the new single  “Home”.

Chris calls them wimp rock.

But I love them.   I hope you like the single. The new album comes out on November 5th. Just in time for my birthday.  I have asked for it.  We shall see.

The Halloween costume is just about done.  It is amazing.  I have been working really hard on it.  I am wearing it to work on Wednesday.   I may be the only one in costume but I am wearing it.

Happy halloween!

Nesting

Here are the Sugababes  “About you now”

I just love them.

I am sorry I have not been posting this week.  It is cold and dreary and it’s been raining for five days.  So I am nesting.  I have a pile of good books (and you all know what happens when I have a pile of books!!)

And I am still on the committee where I have to read children’s books like crazy.  And I am not backed up but the only way I can keep on top of things is if I keep reading (and reading and reading…)

So, I am reading.    I am going to be happy when this year is over.  I am not signing up for the committee again next year. Maybe have two or so years off before I do it again.  I love it but I miss reading adult books.

Have a great weekend!

As you might have heard…

Dumbledore is GAY!

http://observer.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,,2196020,00.html

Though she could have made it a little clearer in the book.   How come it is OK to have a gay character in a book or movie, as long as they aren’t in a relationship?    It is OK that Dumbledore is gay because he remained single?  Oh well.

It is kind of cool that she said it.   I think, though, this news is so yesterday.

I need to catch up.

Cryin’ Shame

Here is an eighties flashback with Katrina and the Waves “Do you want Crying?”

I ordered some new glasses. Progressive bifocals.  I like the frames, though. And I won’t get headaches when I read.

I also discovered this tea company called Yogi Tea.  The make some really interesting flavors.  I got a flavor called “Breathe Deep” that has eucolyptus and what tastes like licorice.  I am not a big fan of licorice, but for a cup here and there, it is perfect.  I added a little wild flower honey and it tastes great!

I have been doing really well on my eating plan.  I did eat some tuna and some shrimp but I am getting used to the new plan and need my protein.   I have been totally beef, pork and poultry free!   (though, I still will eat eggs.)  So I will be a semi-vegetarian.    But I am finding some great things to eat at the supermarket. You can find almost anything in a meat free variety.  Tonight I am making tofurkey brats with pasta and portobello sauce..  Mmmmmmmm.

I had to take my cat to the vet this afternoon.  She sometimes has a problem with her butt.  She is kind of chubby and is not able to clean it regularly and sometimes it gets a little swollen.   I noticed it this week and so we took her and dropped her off today.  They always manage to get her fixed up, however. I am not worried.

And I still have tomorrow off!

In which Dewey’s vision begins to go downhill.

I was driving on the beltway yesterday.

I began to notice that I was having trouble reading the exit signs.  I could read them when I was pretty close to them, just not as I was approaching.  I should be able to do that.

I have also noticed that my eyes get really tired when I read. Sometimes when I am done reading, my right eye hurts for quite a while.  And as reading is my bread and butter, I really need to do something about it.

So, I am taking tomorrow off to go to the eye doctor.  I am afraid of what he will say.  I really don’t want glasses the size of binoculars, but I think I am heading that way.    I also think I might need bifocals.  I really need to be able to focus better when I read.  I had reading glasses but I always forget to wear them and I am always reading here or there or everywhere.   Maybe bifocals are the way to go.    I know of another person who has them and he seems to be doing fine!

I do like my eye doctor so I am sure he will do what is best for me.   Then I will get to go and pick out new frames. Maybe a new dewey will emerge… but probably it will be the same tired old dewey you know and love.  But with better frames.  Well, new frames at any rate.    And it will be nice to have a three day weekend.  I was super busy this past week and was really feeling down in the dumps.  This will lift my spirits.  I hope it won’t take a long time to get the lenses.

I will need my new specks soon!

Happy fall everyone!

Fun with Tofu

I had some fun with Tofu tonight.  I bought the firm tofu so I could cut it up and put it in a stir fry.

I had organic frozen shitake mushrooms, broccoli and green beans.  I stir fried them with a little soy sauce, some cumin and some salt.   I had a packet of frozen jasmine rice that I just had to microwave.

It was really easy to make and took no time at all and was good for me and good for the environment.

YAY!

And some of you, my friends, could have come over for dinner and have eaten everything I served!

Better and Sleepier

Hi kids!

Just to let you know that Chris is doing much better.  He slept the entire day yesterday and got lots of rest and has been able to take his pills early enough to stop the cluster headaches before they start.   Today was a good day.

I am off today.  I work tomorrow.    I have really been doing nothing.  Reading quite the cute little mystery novel called “Dead Men Don’t Lye”.  It is a soap making mystery if you couldn’t figure that one out.

I am really sleepy again today.  I am thinking it might be the allergies.   I have been having trouble sleeping because I get all stuffed up, and when certain things are in the air I get really drowsy.  My eyes itch and I feel like I am in a fog.  I was getting that feeling at lunchtime today, so I took a nap.  I feel a little less sleepy now.  Good thing!

Chris met me for lunch today.  He had to take some time off to see his doctor, and his doctor is in Hampded so he picked me up and we went to a little coffee shop for lunch.   I had mac and cheese and a garden salad.   I have been copletely vegetarian since tuesday!  It is easy (I have done this before).  Though I do eat cheese and eggs.    I love cheese!

But I am feeling healthier.  I am also trying to eat more green things.  They are good for me!

And I really like all kinds of food… I just have to make better choices!  Hope you are all having a killer Friday.

Midnight in the ER

I had to take Chris to the emergency room last night.

Chris gets cluster headaches.  He gets them every two to three years and he can have them for a month.  I think they are similar to a migraine, the pain is so intense.    He has medicine that works but last night it was so bad his pill did not work.  So, I had to drive him to GBMC.

Luckily it was not too crowded.  We got there around ten and were home by one.    They gave him a shot of benedril and something for nausea.   It really seemed to help.     He got another one this morning but he took his pill and now he is sleeping.   He is staying home from work today.

I feel so helpless when he has them. He is in so much pain.   I can’t really do anything.   I try to be close to him but that is all I can do.   I wish I could do more.

So, it seems like the health of those around me are just bad right now.   But I am hanging in there.  Trying to take care of myself as well as others.  But I have to take care of myself first or I can’t help anyone else.

I am tired at the moment and I have to work in two hours. Luckily I have had the morning off and I also have tomorrow off.  I have to do the baby story time on Saturday.  I hate the baby story time.  I am really not fond of babies. Sigh.

New Direction

Working on changing some things about my life.

Have changed from coffee to mostly tea and that is helping my stomach.   I am trying to drink more herbal tea because my friend Steve told me that tea has more caffeine than coffee.   But, even still, I am drinking far less black tea than I did with the coffee every morning. I have some wonderful flavors! I bought two new ones today… dewy cherry and a roobios with mango.  Roobios is some kind of bush in Africa that makes good tea and has no caffeine.  Well, I guess it really isn’t tea, I think you call that a tisane.

I am going to try and stop eating red meats.   I did it before and was pretty much a vegetarian for 8 years and then I stopped. So I know I can do it.   I just get used to the convienance of things and order all the wrong foods.  If I still allow myself poultry,  it should be pretty easy.   Just have to get into the habit.  I know I can do it.  I have been reading more about Buddhism again and I think if I concentrate on the fact that poor cows have feelings too, it will make me feel bad about eating beef.  A cow is a living thing.  I should not eat it.   I mean, would I eat my pets?

I think a lot of this comes from seeing my sister.   For one thing, I have to be more in control of my own health. No one is going to do that for me.    And watching my sister fight and be so positive.   She is a trouper.   She is showing what you can do if you put  your mind to it.  And if I put my mind to it, I can do things too.

My dog is snoring up a storm right now.  It is quite amusing!

This is Alanis Morrisette and her take on “My Humps”.  It is pretty cool.  You go, Alanis!
